ICJ orders Russia to suspend its military invasion of Ukraine: Reports

The highest court of the United Nations, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), on Wednesday, ordered Russia to stop its military invasion of Ukraine, as per the reports.

The decision has been counted by 13-2 votes, stating that the Russian Federation will quickly suspend military operations that it started on February 24.

The decision given by the International Court of Justice is the principal such decision given by a global court since the conflict started in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, “Ukraine gained a complete victory in its case against Russia at the ICJ. The ICJ ordered to stop the invasion immediately. The order is binding under international law. Russia must comply immediately. Ignoring the order will isolate Russia even further”.

As per the reports, the judges said, “The Russian Federation shall immediately suspend the military operations that it commenced on February 24, 2022, in the territory of Ukraine.”

The appointed authorities added Russia should likewise assure that different powers under its influence or upheld by Moscow shouldn’t proceed with the tactical activity.

Earlier on March 7, Russia had boycotted the hearing. Ukraine has appealed to the International Court of Justice to order Russia to stop military operations. Ukraine said Russia’s aggression falls within a faulty interpretation of the UN Genocide Treaty.
