Ireland: Killester Garden Village Committee celebrates Centenary Community Day

Ireland’s Killester Garden Village Committee celebrated 100 years of the Killester Garden Village with its WW1 ex-servicemen and the families that live there on Saturday, August 26, 2023

The Killester Garden Village Book was officially launched by the Minister of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, who spoke at the event. The Committee extended their pleasure and warmly thanked the Minister for launching this unique book and attending and speaking at their communities’ centenary celebration a part of the Decade of Centenaries – History Ireland.

The Killester Garden Village Committee also thanked the book’s researchers, Nigel Henderson of History Hub Ulster and Michael Nugent of WW1 Research Ireland, and the book’s contributors, Tom Burke MBE of Royal Dublin Fusiliers Association, Jan Glover and Patrick Hugh Lynch.

They also extended their gratitude and thanked all the Volunteers and event organisers and Chairman of the Killester Garden Village Committee, Aaron Crampton, along with the hardworking and fantastic committee members Gerry Leigh, Kevin Martin of Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann ONE Veterans Charity, Marion Martin, Francis Chance, Ciara Ryan, Linda Byrne, Avril Stephenson, Tommy Crampton, Eamon Delaney and volunteers Mandy Stephenson, Pamela Purdue and family, Aoife Byrne and many many more.

They also thanked all the representatives of various Embassies for attending today, Col Sean Grant, British Defence Attache, British Embassy Dublin, Karle De Volder, Embassy of Belgium in Dublin, Mehmut Ege Ersen, Turkish Embassy and the French Embassy.

Killester Garden Village Committee also thanked the Chairman of the Royal British Legion Republic of Ireland Branch, Paul Stephenson and the representatives from the ONE and Irish United Nations Veterans Association veterans for attending.

They thanked Barry Kenny of Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail for coming along today. The Killester Garden Community also celebrated 100 years since the opening of Killester Halt.

They thanked Senator Gerard Craughwell and Cathal Berry TD for travelling today, both politicians having military service. They also thanked Rev Canon Lesley Robinson for attending and for the support from St Brigid Church Killester.

At last, they also thanked all the Communities and the local businesses and all the Volunteers and event Organisers and many more for attending and organising the beautiful event.
