Spanish media & Barca fans slammed Gernacho for trolling Pedri

The Argentine player Alejandro Gernacho, who presently represents Manchester United, has come under fire from Spanish media and Barcelona supporters for making fun of Pedri during the Europa League round of 16 encounter at Old Trafford.

A well-known Spanish publication claims that making fun of an injured player is extremely disrespectful and shows that Gernacho is still not fully ready for top-tier football. The post was deemed “in very poor taste for an 18-year-old lad who hasn’t been in elite football for very long,” according to the publication.

Manchester United won the game at their home Old Trafford after scoring two goals in the second half. Former Bayern sticker now playing for Barcelona scored the opening goal in the 18th minute after being awarded by penalty.

Following the game, Gernacho traded shirts with a player from Barcelona and imitated Pedri’s celebration by making sunglasses out of his palms.

Due to an injury, Barcelona midfielder Pedri was unable to play, while Gavi was suspended for fouling Fred in the first leg at Camp Nou. The match official showed him a yellow card because he pulled the United striker through his shirt.

Several Barcelona supporters were equally upset by Gernacho’s behaviour after the game. He thinks that making fun of a player who is injured is inappropriate.

On social media, some compared the two of them based on their accomplishments, noting that while Gernacho has only made 28 appearances for United, Pedri has won three major titles with Barcelona.

United supporters defended Gernacho and criticised the unfair attitude of Barca supporters. They reignited the debate about the goalkeeper Emi Martinez’s disrespectful behaviour, which Barcelona supporters did not protest as he carried a doll with Mbappe’s picture taped to it.

They criticised Barcelona and Argentina supporters, claiming that what Grenacho did has no comparison to Martinez. They bring up Martinez in this debate because it was reported that Gernacho, despite being an Argentine, was left off the World Cup roster because he preferred Ronaldo over Messi.
