Vocalist from Moscow performs at ruined Drama theatre in Mariupol, pays tribute to victims

A video of a Moscow singer performing on the roof of a destroyed Drama theatre in Mariupol was posted on Twitter by Anton Gerashchenko, a patriotic Ukrainian and assistant to the interior minister. Between February 24 and May 22, when Russia attacked Mariupol, around 600 people perished in this structure.

It was horrifying to imagine how many people had congregated in this building with delight and gladness while this area was still tranquil. Currently, Russian missile attacks on this edifice have left it in ruins, and it has been alleged that more than 600 people died as a result.

Russia has consistently targeted civilian structures since the beginning of the war; the building itself is proof of the war crimes it committed on Ukrainian soil.

According to Wikipedia, Mariupol is a Ukrainian city governed by the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic, which supports Russia. On March 2, Russian soldiers launched a full-scale siege of the town, following which they progressively took control. The Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, a sizable and well-defended industrial complex, was the new location of the retreating Ukrainian forces by April 22.

After more than two months of ferocious fighting and continuous Russian shelling that destroyed vast swaths of the city and killed thousands of civilians, the Russian singer paid tribute to the people who lost their lives during the attacks while singing in that destroyed building, according to local officials.

The remaining members of the Azov Regiment were “evacuated” or “surrendered” from the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works on May 16, 2022, according to media reports; the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the Ukrainians had “surrendered.”

Russia recently built a facility to demonstrate its presence and authority in the area and recently obtained photographs of a building in Mariupol through satellite. The Russian white and blue star and an army rallying cry may be seen on the roof of the U-shaped building.
