Roseau, Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, arrived in Nassau, Bahamas, in order to take part in the 44th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government, scheduled to be held from February 15, 2023, Wednesday, to February 17, 2023, Friday.
The prime minister will promote shared interests at CARICOM, a gathering of the leaders of 20 Caribbean governments. During their visit, the leaders will have a chance to consider expanding regional political, security, and humanitarian aid.
The official opening ceremony took place at Atlantis Bahamas on February 15 in the evening. The thirteenth CARICOM Triennial Prize for Women to honour women of excellence in the Caribbean Community was also given during the ceremony.
The heads of state will gather behind closed doors at the Grand Hyatt in Baha Mar on February 16 and 17. The summit will take place under the chairmanship of Philip Davis, Bahamas’ prime minister.
The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), agriculture and food security, climate change and climate finance, and health are among the top priorities to be discussed at the Summit.
The heads of government will receive briefings from the Council for National Security & Law Enforcement, the Special CARICOM Ministerial Task Force on Agriculture, and CARICOM IMPACS so every important topic can be thoroughly discussed.
It will also be explored how the recent COP27 Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, affected the area. The conference attendees will also reflect on the need for member states to expand their efforts in energy security.
In addition, Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee (PMSC) will provide information on the state of the CSME.
PM Skerrit will attend the meeting along with Dr Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Commerce, Trade, and Energy. The meeting’s prime minister will be Dr Irving McIntyre, minister of finance, economic development, climate resilience, and social security.
