Another protest for Iran will take place in Brussels on Saturday, October 1. To show their support for Iranian men and women fighting against the compulsory hijab, demonstrators will march from Trone metro to Schuman from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
After the death of Mahsa Amini (Jina) in police custody, Iranian protestors have risen up all over the nation, with thousands joining anti-government protests. Women have had a central role in protests, burning their headscarves and cutting off their hair.
Yet human rights groups and the UN are concerned because of the violent crackdown by authorities, with security forces reportedly responding with live ammunition on protestors. Majority have been killed, injured and arrested.
Meanwhile, state media
have put the number killed in the protests at 41, but human rights group believe it is much higher. Iran Human Rights (IHR) registered the deaths of 83 protestors in 16 different provinces as of Thursday, including children. It added that restrictions on internet access were causing delays in registering.
As per IHR, in addition, thousands of protestors and civil rights activists have been detained so far.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “increasingly concerned” with the ongoing protests in a statement on Tuesday, and called on security services to stop using “unnecessary or disproportionate force.”
Organisers are putting together demonstrations in solidarity with the women and men in Iran on October 1 in over 120 cities around the world.
