The Development Academy of the Philippines, through its Security Governance and Diplomacy Cluster, held a Special in-Class Lecture under the GSC-226: National and International Security module for the Master in Public Management major in Development and Security (MPM-DevSec) Batch 21A program last 29 July 2023 on the topic “United Kingdom’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.”

As per the Update, a Special in-Class Lecture under the GSC-226: National and International Security module for the Master in Public Management significant in Development and Security (MPM-DevSec) Batch 21A program was eloquently discussed by the British Defence Attaché to the Philippines, Group Captain Bea Walcot RAF.

Group Captain Walcot began her lecture by outlining the importance of the Indo-Pacific to the United Kingdom, their approach, interests, and commitment to upholding rules-based order in the region. She further emphasized the need for collaboration and persistent engagement to strengthen the countries’ defence capabilities to mitigate the growing security challenges in the United Kingdom and the region.

The lecture was followed by an open forum facilitated by the Faculty-in-Charge, Dr Chester B. Cabalza. During the open meeting, the students raised a series of sharp questions to which Group Captain Walcot responded intelligently. This session was deemed fruitful and allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics at play in the Indo-Pacific.

Towards the end of the session, Group Captain Walcot reiterated the UK’s commitment to providing expertise, training and education to our defence and security sector and looks forward to strengthened United Kingdom-Philippines relations.
