The Italian ambassador to Australia has died after she fell from a balcony in her hometown in Foligno in the Umbria region.

As per the reports, Ambassador Francesca Tarioli, aged 56 years old, was found dead outside her house after apparently falling from the third floor. The police are scrutinizing the incident in Italy.

Meanwhile, while taking it to Twitter, Australia’s ambassador to Italy, Margaret Twomey, said, “Heartbreaking news on the passing of Ambassador Francesca Tardioli. Dear Friend. Brilliant colleague. Greatly respected diplomat. Our thoughts are with her family, friends.”

Twomey described Tardioli as one of Italy’s greatest gifts to Australia.

The embassy and Italy’s foreign affairs ministry has also mourned her on social media.

Italy’s foreign ministry, while taking it to Twitter to pass condolences, said, “It is with profound sorrow that we weep for the loss of Francesca Tardioli and join family’s grief. She was a great diplomat and servant of the State.”

According to the reports, “She allegedly lost her balance while leaning over her balcony.”

Tardioli, who held the position of ambassador since September 2019 and was fluent in English and French and had a good knowledge of German and Spanish. She joined Italian National Diplomatic Service in 1991.
