Rome, Italy: On Sunday, January 16, 2022, a total of 149,512 individuals were infected with the COVID-19 virus over the past 24 hours, as per the data issued by the health ministry.

On the other hand, 248 people have lost their lives due to the deadly viral infection. The number of deaths due to the contagious mutant fell on Sunday as it was 308 fatalities recorded on the previous day.

Further, a total of 180,426 cases were recorded on Saturday, January 15, 2022, which represents that there is a falling down in the cases reported over the past 24 hours.

Since the pandemic has emerged in the country, a total of 141,104 fatalities have been reported, which is linked to the COVID-19 virus. Italy is the country which stands at the second position due to the death toll in entire Europe. Moreover, the country is the ninth highest in the world due to the COVID-19 related fatalities.

On the other hand, Britain has stood in the first position due to the deaths as it has surpassed a total of 150,000 deaths linked to the coronavirus.

Moreover, so far, the country has reported a total of 8.71 million cases of the COVID-19 virus.

Further, the number of patients who have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours stands at 18,719 on Sunday, and it came down as on Saturday, a total of 18,370 patients have been admitted to the hospital facilities.

With the new cases, a total of 128 patients have been admitted to the intensive care unites, and come down from Saturday as it was 141 on the day. The total number of patients who are residing in intensive care due to the COVID-19 virus rose to 1,691.

As per the status of the test of the deadly virus, the hospital facilities in Italy have processed 927,846 tests for COVID-19 over the past 24 hours; it was 1.22 million tests recorded previously, as per the health ministry said.
